Gardening & Building at Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center & Reservation

RCR is inviting Permatours on-site July 6-8th, after our stop at the Rainbow Gathering in Colorado.

We’ll be gathering at RCR to give back and to learn-by-doing - including demolition, tending to gardens, building healthy soil, creating signage, building seats and tables, and more!

RCR is calling in individuals who are not afraid to get dirty and who are ready to tear down, recycle, upcycle, and repurpose materials.

They’re also seeking artists and visionaries willing to beautify and care for Mother Earth, and to paint the four directions on Sacred Earth Lodge and other buildings.

ABOUT RCR

Red Cloud Renewable is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit founded and operated by Lakota Elder, Henry Red Cloud, a fifth-generation direct descendant of Chief Red Cloud (Maypiya Luta), the last War Chief of the Lakota nation who was perhaps the most well-known and photographed Native American in all of history.

Today, Henry continues along a different path of leadership – one that is building energy independence for Native American communities across the Great Plains and far beyond.

“We are actively writing history via daily actions and interactions with each other. We are the creators of this positive story between Native and non-Native as we engage with regenerative projects.” -RCR

1001 Solar Warrior Road (recently changed to Rabbit Road)

HWY 18

Pine Ridge, SD 57770

Google Maps Coordinates: 43.130262,-102.656497

The Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center (RCREC) is located on U.S. HWY 18, between the villages of Pine Ridge and Oglala, SD.

From Pine Ridge Village

9.1 miles north of the Shell station (Big Bat's) at the intersection of U.S. 18 and Rt. 87 in Pine

Ridge village. Set your odometer! At 9.1 miles on U.S. 18 West, you’ll turn right on to the newly named Rabbit Road. You might see a tractor trailer sign near the tree line to the east. Follow the gravel road off to the right and continue down the small hill. You will see a Quonset hut immediately to your left and you can park along there. Henry’s home is across the dirt road beyond the solar array to the south - about 200’ from Rapid City. You are just over 100 miles from the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center. Head south on Highway 79...which becomes Highway 18. At the very small town of Oelrichs, you’ll turn east but still on Highway 18. You’ll pass the casino...face down the border guards if there are any and pass through to the small town of Oglala.

From Oglala:

Set your odometer when you pass the Oglala Post Office on HWY 18 East, heading southeast. In 5.5 miles, start looking for Mile Marker 94. Turn left 1⁄2 mile past mile marker 94 at the low point of a very subtle hill. The turnoff has an official sign – Rabbit Road. Follow the gravel road off to your right, and down a small hill. You will see a Quonset hut off to your left, where you can park. Come on in and ask for Henry, who is the Executive Director
